Paul and Ben, it’s a pleasure to meet you both. Your Foil Drive Assist system quickly became one of my favorite ways to motorize foiling. While other companies are creating large and heavy eFoils that last for three hours, your approach and goal were completely unique and opposite.
Can you tell us why you decided to take this specific route in creating a super lightweight system?
Your Foil Drive helped me create the lightest setup on the market, weighing in at just 13kg, while most eFoils on the market are over 30-35kg or more. While the Foil Drive is not meant to be an eFoil itself, it can still be used as such, especially on big wings and for lightweight riders. Can you tell us about the main use cases for the Foil Drive and who it will benefit the most?
In terms of safety, when I first saw the original Foil Drive Assist box, I was a bit confused by its DIY look and was concerned that the box would leak and the battery would explode. I imagine some riders might have similar concerns.
Can you address the safety of the whole system?
Can you discuss the best positions to attach the Foil Drive box to the board?
How does the Foil Drive system work with both small prone boards and big SUP foiling boards?
Some users don’t like the idea of having a box on the board. Have you considered placing the battery on the mast near the motor, similar to how diving scooters look like torpedoes?
What new developments can we expect from the Foil Drive this season? Can you discuss the integrated mast and any new features? Will we see a boost mode? Are there any plans for EU and USA resellers?
The foiling industry is still relatively new, and many people are still surprised to see an eFoil. How do you see the industry progressing over the next five years?
